I was chuffed to be invited to read from a short story at the launch of the new digital journal 50GS (give it a read here – it’s a thing of beauty). It was utterly surreal to be reading a story at my alma mater. Halfway through the extract (from “Sugar Cake Trail”) I realised that my former supervisor was in the room. He had read a very rough version of the story and marked it for one of my end-of-term portfolios.
The magazine is filled with beautiful visual art, poetry and stories. It was an honour to be invited to help celebrate its launch – and I got to sit on a panel with my pal Russell Jones and the very brilliant writer Dan Shand, poet Ryan Van Winkle and playwright Annie George!
Here is a picture of me looking deep in concentration while reading from the story.
